Persistence

• There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions. I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.” So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayers. ~Ezra 8:21-23

How do you get prepared? Guess it depends on what you’re preparing for, right? You prepare for a final exam by studying. You prepare for a marathon by running long distances. If you don’t prepare, you fail. Ezra and the exiles prepared themselves for a long, dangerous journey by fasting and praying for Gods protection. The Christian life is like a marathon. If you’re not prepared, you’ll never finish the race. Studying the word, fasting, and praying are three ways you can prepare for the daily challenges you face. How ready are you for the race ahead?
