Faith

  • Then the LORD sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. The people came to Moses and said, “We summed when we spoke against the LORD and against you. Pray that the LORD will take the snakes away from us.” Moses prayed for the people. The LORD said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten from a snake, and looked at the bronze snake, he lived. ~Numbers 21:6-9

Look at a bronze snake and be healed?! What’s the deal with that? Turns out it wasn’t a snake issue; it was a faith issue. It was a matter of people believing that God had provided a way to save them and then trusting him enough to act on that belief by looking up. And another reason for this story is to point us to Jesus.

  • Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. ~John 3:14-15

God has provided us to be saved from our sin—by looking to Jesus’ death on the cross. Do you have faith that keeps you looking at him?
